Are you interested in joining our group (http://www.mountaineerscouts.com/) on an international expedition to climb the founder's namesake peak in the Himalayas in the Spring of 201? ?

We welcome applications from Scouts in Asia, Europe, South America, Africa, Australia and the United States (and everywhere else on earth).

The goal is to put an international team on the summit with the World Scouting Flag along with the Scout flags of each team member's country in the Spring of 201?.

We will partner with Nepal Scouts for this expedition.

Some mountaineering experience and a certain level of fitness will be required for this expedition for those climbing the mountain.

Those not wishing to climb but wanting to come with us as a trekking experience are welcome!

Langtang National Park is a far less travelling part of the Himalayas and will present an entirely different experience than the trek to EBC. You can stay in the beautiful village at the base of the mountain and enjoy the culture while the climbing team heads up the mountain. Those wanting to do this part of the trip as a trekking experience will also not pay as much as those climbing the mountain (less costs for mountain guides, gear, etc.).

More Details:
http://www.facebook.com/events/189492921159719/

NOTE: This expedition will immediately follow a trek to Everest Base Camp (17,598 ft./5,364 m.).
Sagarmatha National Park, Nepal.

The trek is a classic introduction to the Himalayas and will serve to acclimatize the team to the altitude that we will face when we go for BP Peak.

The Fins are heading back to Nepal (April 6-May 4).

A team of Finnish Rovers successfully summited Baden-Powell Peak (19,324 ft.) in 2010 and they're heading back with another team this year!

We'll definitely follow this expedition as best we can since we plan on doing the same climb in 2015.

Best of luck to the Fins!

Oh yeah, they're Rovers....

I am pleased to announce the second leader on the team: Neala Hutchinson, 1st Fairfield Rovers, Chilliwack, B.C.!

Neala is currently in the middle of a year working at Kandersteg in Switzerland.

We will start serious planning for this event in the Fall.

This is going to be fun!

The Finnish Rover expedition has completed its trek from Syafru Bensi (the last town at the end of the road from Khathmandu) to Kyanjing Gompa (12,664'/3,860m - a Himalayan village in the valley below many climbing objectives in Langtang National Park).

Their next move will be to make their way through the mountains to Baden-Powell Peak basecamp (16,404 ft./5,000 m).

The approximate route to BP Peak (19,324 ft./5,890 m.) from Kyanjing Gompa is marked in green on the above map.

One of our Facebook friends, Sunil Tamang, "The Nomadic Nepali", reports that he saw the team of 32 Rovers and Rangers as they passed through Syafru Bensi. Unfortunately, he also reported that the team was forced to abandon some of their supplies because of a shortage of porters. Langtang National Park is a less travelled region of the Himalayas and their logistical support of expeditions into the area may not be as well established as other trekking/climbing regions in Nepal.

Our best wishes go to the team from Finland as they now begin the most difficult and dangerous part of their journey. Once they leave Kyanjing Gompa, they will be walking away from any semblance of civilization and every step they take will break trail upwards into the thin air of the untameable Himalayas. It's time to lace up their climbing boots and bust out their ice axes and crampons. The trek is over. Now they're mountain climbers. THIS is the real deal!

Be safe!

Rough draft schedule of:

(1) Trek to Everest Base Camp (with Island Peak extension included for discussion purposes) ; and

(2) Trek to Langtang and climb of Baden-Powell Peak:

The whole trip may need to be moved a week or two earlier to accommodate potential guiding companies schedules. Again, this is a very early draft designed to stimulate discussion.
