I found this on the SC National web page:
Scouts Canada is pleased to announce the newest online course now available as e-Learning: Outdoor Skills!
Scouts Canada, long a leader in leadership, youth, and outdoor training is taking its reputation to the next level. Starting 1 April 2014, Leaders will be able to take their outdoor training as part of an online, web only package. From the comfort of their own homes, leaders will be able to learn and become certified in activities such as:
• Fire starting
• White Water rafting
• Knot tying
• Canoe Level 1
• Light Weight camping
James Jokus, Leader with the 13th Grenovian Troop piloted the online training and comments:
It was great. I was able to learn camping from the comfort of my own home. I poured the hot coffee, watched the videos, and now I feel confident taking my Scouts, Cubs and Beavers White Water rafting. As long as I had two leaders present while watching the videos, all aspects of outdoor adventures and youth safety were covered.
Scouts Canada will soon introduce other online modules including:
• First Aid
For more information, please consider that today is April Fool’s Day.
Ideas, thoughts, approaches and material to equip our adult volunteers to deliver the youth programs.
