Who is (trying) feeding you all this BS Sam. Wood Badge II Beads ARE part of the uniforms and should always be worn whenever you wear A neckie (not necessarily the WB Neckie). I would like to see anyone (especially paid staff) even suggest that I take off my beads; (s)he would blow away in the fire of my breath answering them. Not even the Chief Commissioner can forbid you wearing your Beads...nor would he even think of suggesting that to anyone. In this case some ignorant ignoramus is pushing their weight around...

Sorry about the heat of my answer, but some people just get to me that way...

Well Sam, you have been around long enough today to not let that happen again...if you see it happen to somebody else; step in Brother Scout...some Dinosaur "Know-it-all" never learn. Some of the less long in the tooth Trainers, CC's, AC's, DAC's, and GC's just never learned and are too opinionated to consult B.P.&P.

Re: Beavers Activity Badges

I spent 7 days away from my family earning my Gilwell beads in Colony. I sacrifice that time, my wife was alone with the kids for that time, and my kids did without me on three separate weekends (which is their time with me).

I am a leader in both Colony and Pack now, and have never once been asked to remove my beads (I thought I should, since they are Colony beads, but Errol corrected me a number of months back). My beads will stay on, thank you very much. This being said, I intend to take WB II Pack in 2012, and WB II Troop in 2013, as I will be a leader in both sections come the fall of 2012, for the foreseeable future.

So does that mean cubs and scouts can sew theirs on the backs of their shirts?

Would that be common sense? I think not. But again, there are no uniform police in Scouts Canada, and as ridiculous as it would look; noi-one can really stop you doing it.

Re: Beavers Activity Badges

My comment was a little tongue in cheek. I agree it would not look good. But activity badges do not belong on the uniform, and that should be explained to parents when the first one is handed to the youth. That being said, I would not rip them off the uniform of a youth who does have them on their vest.

Actually your comment is truer than you may think; since the brown shirts have been in you would be surprised what some Youth have on their shirts. After all if you have sashes for your badges, then you can put Jamboree and Camp Badges on the sleeves. In Europe it is not uncommon to see Youth of all ages with all sorts of souvenir camp and Jamboree badges on their shirts. In most cases Campfire Blankets are a UK/CANADIAN/BSA phenomenon and not widely used by many other NSO's.

Cubs and Scouts have badges to sew onto their shirts, Beavers do not. They are also better able to understand that it is not appropriate than 5yr old Beavers. It's a matter of educating the parents when the crests are handed out, as to where they go.
