New Uniforms

I saw the new uniforms unveiled. They certainly look very fresh and vibrant. Just a quick question though... does anyone know what to do with badges with these new uniforms? I didn't notice much space on the sleeves, and there are no epaulets, so I'm assuming a sash isn't part of the design.

Are they a replacement to the tan shirts, or meant to be an alternative?

Just wondering.

Re: New Uniforms

They are going to be a replacement for the tan shirts. You may continue to wear your tan shirt until you out grow it.

The rank slip ons are now going to part of the woggle so that even if you are just wearing your necker they are visible. There will also be a badge that can be sown onto the shirt since all leaders should have their wood badge woggle.

The badges have been redesigned to be smaller and woven instead of stitched so they should fit on the sleeve better. Hopefuly we will be able to use the old badges until we use up our present stock.

I will hold out judgment on the new badges til I actually see one, but in my experience, woven badges look and feel cheap. I wore the embroidered ones on my arm as a cub, and don't see why we need to change em, just another expense that is not needed.

Re: New Uniforms

I was told at the launch on Friday March 25th in Toronto that the new badges will be designed to be stuck on. You peel the back and stick them on the sleeve. MM

I had always been under the impression that woven badges were more expensive. While I haven't seen any over here, I know they used to use them for the county and district badges in the UK.

Re: New Uniforms

if they are peel and stick, lol, how are we going to reuse uniforms? there is bound to be residue that will attract dust and dirt when they are removed!

Re: New Uniforms

Sewing the badges on will of course be the norm, however, the BSA has been using a product call "Badge Magic" which is an adhesive and it allows for multiple, muliple wash and dry cycles....It may be something we will offer as an alternative from the Scout Shop.
