Water Cycle Game

Black Star requirement B9.

Here is a role-based simulation game developed by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) we played with the Cubs a few weeks ago. With the roll of the dice, Cubs simulate the journey water molecules may take as they travel within the water cycle. You can find the resource material at:

This is a good game that can be adapted to a younger or older audience. The instructions provide a basic version – which worked well with the Cubs – and a more advance version which introduces pollutants. This may be better suited for Scouts. As well, less talking up front is recommended. I suggest letting the Cubs figure out what are the paths water can take rather than discussing it before the game. Also, there is no tracking sheet provided to record the path Cubs will take, so I designed one. A template is attached as well as a sample filled out one.

What kind of games/activities have you used to talk about the water cycle?
