Re: Girls and Scouting

If you are going to put it on the kit list, you kinda have to have a conversation with the girls in your troop to find out what they call "it". Seems everyone calls them different things and some don't even know the generic names. I always just thought they were included in toiletries. We never had ...

Re: Girls and Scouting

The Girl guides form ask if the girl is familiar with menstruation. I suppose that its a good idea to know, I would hate to deal with the kid who thinks she is dying because its an unknown, and I am sure that happens occasionally even in this day and age. the Physical Fitness form used to ask. The ...

Re: Agency Awards

There is a 'generic' one available from Scout Shop

http://scoutshop.ca/Search?data=first+aid+generic

but if you want the "agency" version, you have to get it from the agency itself. Usually available from the trainer, especially if they know you are a Scouter when you take the course.

Re: What is an Akela?

Akela is the "lead leader" for the Cub Section. What they actually do is up to the Akela. They are the one with overall responsibility for the section and accountable to the Group Commissioner and Group Committee. They can delegate as much or as little as they are comfortable with. If you are not co...

Re: New System Age Restrictions!

There is an official policy that has been in place since 2012-13 registration https://help.scouts.ca/hc/en-ca/articles/202508274-Beaver-Scouts-Age-Policy POSITION: The practice of making allowance for youth to register early for a section, based on turning the section age before December 31 of that ...

Re: New Colony leader names?

Somewhere (I forget where exactly) someone (who was on the team) said they were not getting rid of the current Colony names. Though they were planning to drop the story. But the naming convention would stay. The names were just going to be attributed to the animals rather than the Jones family. Thin...

Re: Cubs and respect

Have you checked out the Code of Conduct Jumpstarts? They have a lot of activities that relate to respect and working together. Setting Respect Goals, Lava Pit Game, Golden Rule (Treat others as you wish to be treated), Co-operative Monster Making, Anger Thermometer. Could even look at some of the a...

Re: How to remove family/parents

Think the only way for them to be removed is to send to help desk or council registrar ... don't think it's possible to fix at Group level For one of mine, I just edited the existing parent accounts with the information that was given (Had one that was showing the Aunt as the parent, and the parent ...

MS1 is the Woodbadge I in the section for your primary role However it will not be checked off until at least midnight EST the day you complete the last module online ... the two systems (training and myScouts) only talk once a day to mark your completed training. Make sure you have the Mod 1 and th...

Re: Slaughtering the Sacred Cow: Ratio

just curious, but they have to complete 3 personal reference checks (usualy the individuals section leader) isnt the section leader one person? am I the only one who thinks thats confusing. as to ratio, it says nothing of quality, which IMO is more important than quantity. Well, usually there are m...

Re: Slaughtering the Sacred Cow: Ratio

Norma (or anyone else), do you have a reference to that 2010 change for Activity Leaders with WBI counting in the ratio? I would like to add that. 4008.4 – Activity Leaders: Revised November 2010 Activity leaders are registered members, 14 or 15 years old, who work with a Beaver colony or a Wolf Cu...

Re: Names for Signature Section Awards.

They had a survey going around for names for the Top Awards. They did say that the Scout section was *not* going to change. It would remain the Chief Scout's Award. There was the possibility for the QVA to change. All the other sections the names were 'unique' (not the Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum...

Re: Slaughtering the Sacred Cow: Ratio

I think Troop level youth can also conduct activities without any adult supervision. While this seemingly goes against BP&P 4008.2 10001 - Additional Leadership Requirements for Camping and Outdoor Activities (See Section 2008.2) 10001.3 - Scouts: Troop Scouters may approve patrol size groups of Sc...

Re: Slaughtering the Sacred Cow: Ratio

From Google, there are a lot of different ratios out there ... even just across Canada. Seems each Province has its own idea of the appropriate ratios for adults to children. The Beavers being the 1:5 is likely due to the 5 year olds being part of the section. 5 year olds are still "pre school" as t...

When they have to shop, do they have to stay in their Sixes? or can they send johnny to get milk and paul to get potatoes and all meet at the cash register?

Sounds like a really fun adventure.

The BBS and BGS still use the stetsons (and also the Cub hats)
they don't have prices, but have said they are 'reasonable' compared to the one from the Scout Shop in the UK

Re: Program Review - Universal Suggestions

From what I see there is more emphasis on the "Adventure", this can be done with outdoor elements (mostly with the Adventure Skill badges, though some of the topics are still indoorish) But the program seems to still include more indoor elements: creativity and personal expression is still a part of...

Re: Camporee, fundraising, parental help...

We have done some activities similar with Colony and made the costumes/decorations at Colony meetings. I would think if you want all members "equally" costumed/decorated you would need to do it during meetings/camps/etc where they are all together. This could be helped by parents, but sending home a...

The Adventure Skill Awards are just a part of the new program. Like a thread that goes through from Beaver through to Rovers. Each s...
