With the greatest respect. Rick, I do know wht BPP says; but what is his real task, and to what extent does he doe that 1 day, 2 days. 3 days x week/month??? And you will not convince me that he is not getting paid soething, under whaterver coolumn it is etered on the balance sheet. And yes, there a...

Re: "New" Chief Scout?

Just had a look; NOT my typical role model for Scouting nor for my Son. Wonder howmuch he is costing us and what his "duties" include. Salary and travel cost mst be whopping and I wonder what we get in return. He certainly is neither the Duchess nor a Bear. UK made a gross mistake with teir first ou...

Re: "New" Chief Scout?

And personally I am not sure that I want a Bonty Hunter as a "role model" for my son... Did you read his bio http://www.scouts.ca/ca/news/scouts-canada-appoints-north-americas-renowned-tracker-and-wilderness-expert-chief-scout: Grant is best known as the star of the reality hit series, Mantracker, ...

Re: "New" Chief Scout?

Umm, there can be only one "Patron Scout of Canada", just as there is only one "Patron Scout of the United Kingdom". Let's face it, the GG has not been that involved in Scouting. The last several appointments have had little to do with Scouting. I see the appointment of Terry Grant as a pure positi...

Re: Scouter vs. Leader (from Recruiting Leaders Discussion)

To the best of my 58 years as a Scouter knowledge, a Warrant of Appointment is only issued once and remains the property of the Association; it can be withdrawn for cause. Mine says:...is appointed as a Scouter and is authorized to hold this position... It was issued in 1965 and signed by His Excell...

Re: The kids are bored.

{SNIPPED}  The original Cub program had the 2-3 stars. 1st star was earned to begin with, then when you had that you moved to the 2nd star. When you were preparing to move to Scouts you got the third star. This sounds like an urban legend to me Norma. In 67 years in Scouting from Wolf Cub to Commis...

Re: service bars

so is the mandatory retirement age when they go past your collar? Was wondering about that too; Al Griffith's must go up to his collar and then back done the other sleeve  And then one Quebec (I think) Scouter who wears a gold one for each year of service; about 40-50 I think. (No, not Mike Re...

Re: service bars

Is it necessary that all of your badges/service stripes be visible all of the time. When I roll my sleeves the stripes disappear untilI roll the sleeves down again. Seems simple to me; why complicate things

Re: Rovers to get Milestone Recognition Program awards

Some of my Rover Scouts are convinced that Scouts Canada's ultimate plan is to phase out the Section entirely - leaving only Rover-aged people who want to be involved in Leadership. I'm not convinced there is such a nefarious plot about, but circumstances like this certainly seems to give their con...

Re: Rovers to get Milestone Recognition Program awards

The 10 year award is part of the Milestone Recognition program. It is for years of service not youth participation. It should be presented promptly after the 10th year of service has been completed. {SNIPPED} Finally, a Warrant of Appointment is provided at the discretion of the council. Each counc...

Re: Who is responsible?

AFAIAC the buck stops with the Leader, if something goes wrong the Leader will be blamed; even by the parent involved. SCOUTS CANADA makes the "risk" rules; it is the Leaders' obligation to follow them as written in BPP. If anyone gives you problems with that, take it to your GC who is there to help...

Re: Outside Testing for Signature Awards

First a couple of clarifications about the KS/QS In the first place they were the "top ranks and honour in Scout training." {Tenderfoot to King's Scout, p.144}. In order to retain KS/QS status a Scout was required to pass the requirements for Ambulance Man and Pathfinder (Coast Watchman for a Sea Sc...

Re: Rovers to get Milestone Recognition Program awards

For the record, the 10 Year Service Medal is to recognize 10 years service as a Scouter (as are the Pins). According to some (forget the name, but it was someone on National similar to Alex who posted here), the 10 year Service Medal is part of the "milestone" program now. And should be automatical...

Re: "God" stuff

(snipped) I find the whole situation kind of odd because the program standards say that running a RiL program is one way for a section to fulfill the spiritual development requirements of the program, and yet SC provides very little information about what RiL actually is. Also, I think how a group ...

Re: "God" stuff

. . . SNIP . . . Therefore, IMNSHPO, it is NOT the prerogative of Scouts Canada to determine the age grouping in each stage of RiL; it is the prerogative of each religion to determine it's own requirements for each stage age group. . . . SNIP . . . (just an opinion; who cares what I think) :c...

Re: Recruiting Leaders

I was going to leave it alone, and I certainly respect every one's opinion. But... Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts call me Bagheera. Scout Scouts :D and Venture Scouts call me Scouter Stan. I refer to myself as a Scout Leader and am very happy and proud to do so. I understand that Scouter is the tradi...
