Re: Voicing Opinion on Scouts Canada Official Face Book Page

This is an open public forum and we're about to have this sort of discussion, espousing opinions with which others may object. So it must be OK. :) Let's turn the argument around. Hypothetically speaking, would it be OK for Scouts Canada to dictate how others think or limit what they can say in a pu...

Re: Fees? How do you do them?

Many grants that would be applicable to Scouting come from provincial rather than federal programs. Grant application writing might best be handled at the Council level, with assistance from National.

Re: Letter of the Day

All right. I have lurked for about a week and feel compelled to weigh in... A Scout is helpful and trustworthy, Kind and cheerful, Considerate and clean, Wise in the use of all resources Please explain to me how this negativism is in any way keeping with the Scout promise. To me, it seems neither he...

Re: Scout 18 Wheelers

I did not think there was a weight restriction for trucks. Scouts figure out pretty quickly that beyond a certain weight, rolling friction becomes the limiting factor.

Re: Nova Scotia Council

Ted, I don't think the section you are citing applies. As far as I am aware (and on this issue I remain blissfully ignorant) nobody had their membership revoked. I believe that they are all still members of Scouts Canada, albeit no longer serving on council.

Re: Ontario passes Child Activity Tax Credit

For the CFTC, the CRA gives examples on their website . The onus is on the organization providing the receipt to specify the eligible amount. Example You operate an away-from-home hockey camp for children. Parents pay an all-inclusive registration fee of $700 for the one-week camp. The camp provides...

Ontario passes Child Activity Tax Credit

With the new, permanent Children's Activity Tax Credit, parents will now be able to receive a refundable tax credit of up to $50 per child under the age of 16 and up to $100 per child with a disability under the age of 18 for enrolling their children in activities that encourage them to be healthy ...

Re: Electronic Voting

Voyageur uses electronic voting for the selection of voting members, but I don't think that is what is meant by this particular motion. I believe this motion allows the council to vote on matters by electronic means and have those decisions be binding on the corporation, rather than requiring voting...

Re: New marketing campaigns announced

I noticed that one of the photos used by Scouts Canada for the new advertising, "Make friends, don't add them", is also used by the Association of Bright Children of Ontario. Not a problem, I just found it interesting. Allan. Hey Allan, instead of uploading images to the forum, consider linking to ...

Re: Kids Fairs and School Handouts

This is a sore point for me. I operate a community theatre and am forever butting heads with people that think copyright doesn't apply to them for some reason or another. Guess what? They are wrong. There is nothing in the Copyright Act that I can find that bestows any special latitude to charities....

Use of copyrighted material

One catch with YouTube is that they will mute your audio if your soundtrack matches copyrighted video;
Which begs the question, why would a Scout or Scout Leader be violating copyright and hence the Scout Law? I hope you have permission to use the audio.

Re: Law, Promise & Motto - Cub scouts?

This is a perfect opportunity for a little leadership development. Consider challenging the sixers and seconders to have their new members ready for investiture and make it their responsibility to help the new members learn the promise, law, and motto. Keep the puzzle idea in your back pocket just i...

For the benefit of others, here is a link to the Scouts Canada Style Guide . The Bliss font is the property of Jeremy Tankard. It can be purchased here . Re: Criminal Background Checks (PRCs)

Brandon, they have such a system already. Scouts Canada works with a third party to provide this service, myBackCheck . The only problem is, with this latest set of federal changes to Vulnerable Sector checks, you still have to print paper, hunt up an "Organization Representative" to attest that the...

Re: Penpalling with cub scouts abroad

You can probably hook up with another group anywhere in the world via WOSM. Also try asking around your group, area, and council. There's a good possibility that another leader knows leaders in other parts of the world, through world or national jamborees.
