Re: Rotating Sixers

We stopped using lofty and pointless titles like Sixer and Second a long time ago. (we don't use PL and APL either).... each section has a YLT... a Y outh L eadership T eam. They are the ones who drive their programs with ideas and planning (even at the Beaver level).... and they decide between them...

Re: Court of honour frequency

Minimum of once per month. Since all planning and program ideas come from the youth.... pretty hard for them to get all their decisions in place and figure out what they are doing on their own... and what they may have to ask their Scout Counsellors for help with.... unless they meet frequently. Not...

Re: "New" Chief Scout?

I think this is an fantastic move forward for Scouts Canada Our path is to remain relevant with youth.... always. Traditions are nice for those of us who can remember what made them traditions 40+ years ago.... but still... "remain relevant with youth" must be respected and all forward plans and pro...

Re: Return to Made in Canada - Petition

I think the admin comment in the previous thread spoke volumes: "Places like Bangladesh are going through the industrial revolution and doing so at a far faster rate than the western world, which took a couple of centuries to reach our current state of equilibrium. It is messy and ugly. People worki...

Re: Program Revitalization Website

All of our sections haven't used the handbook for 2 years. Any activities are tracked using scouttracker. The books themselves are horribly written. Many of our Scouts carry a copy of the BSA handbook, simply as a resource for info because it is put together so well as a "text book" of information. ...

Scout for Change Challenge to all Scouting Groups

Wanted to re-post some information about an amazing service project idea which was designed and implemented by a 12 year old Scout in our Troop. I won't elaborate too much.... I am just going to paste the words from the young Scout's recent post at the Scouts Canada Facebook Group page.... along wit...

RE: MRP gifts coming soon

Anyone else having trouble getting their registered youth activity leaders added to the MRP gifts emailing list? When the original emails went out I sent in a request for clarification to the helpcentre because it was my belief that ALs and SiTs should be included. The response I got indicated that ...

I was on topic.. guitar picks are a must have 24/7 item for sanity

Plus that little pack of first aid and standard/typical wilderness survival gear I carry at all times... that's almost as important ;)

Re: Linkage - Moving from Section to Section Best Practices

RakelaK: I love that model for linking! This makes Swim Up/Advancement more of a "see you later" ceremony, than a welcoming ceremony by the next section up the line. It becomes a natural progression. This definitely needs to be incorporated into the new programs, so that we have much more solid lin...

Re: Linkage - Moving from Section to Section Best Practices

We do lots of All-Sections activities... 2 social, 2 fundraiser and 2 outdoor camps where all sections are intermingled. For Cubs to Scouts our Senior Cubs have already done a mutually beneficial civic tour + have attended Scout Skill meeting nights with the troop and will have several more of those...

Re: New Joe Fresh Uniforms Really Disapointing

We have 5 points of inspection (including paws n claws) And shirts must be tucked in (tan or Grey) for inspection as well as opening and closing circles (or they get docked points) Point race is pretty tight. The winning Six get an all expenses paid camp at a great wilderness site that we don't camp...

Re: Recruitment of a "New Breed" of Scouter (was Books and R

I don't know which figures for ratio are perfect. I do believe they could be higher than they are now. It's hard to word 1 for 10, 1 for 12, 1 for 15... when you can never have less than 2 leaders. And for proper Patrol planned/Patrol run Scout programs where each patrol sets up their own goals... a...

Re: Books and Resources

I was also surprised to note that in the Cub Book there was very little on the Jungle Book and what there really fails to bring out the excitement and adventure of the story. Rick We have a hard time selling JB on kids no matter who much of a twist we try to put on it. I like it... I like that it i...

Re: Books and Resources

We've all but eliminated the book. It's a passable resource... but we find all the best program ideas can be found via UK/BSA websites... and for badge tracking... we've used scouttracker for 2 years and with that being used to its maximum .... the book has become redundant. It used to be that for i...
