Re: Program Revitalization Website

Does anyone know the percentage of our members who are online? thinking of our rural members here, I know a couple who are not, but we are a suburban group, thinking rural groups may have a chalenge here. I know only one of our camps that we use has wifi I'm able to successfully deliver email to 96...

Re: Support for Program Revitalization

I think this hits on one of the key pillars of Adventure Skills. The idea is that a youth member two stages ahead can mentor the less experienced youth member in attaining the skills they need to achieve that particular stage. So if we had Venturers who trained in SCUBA and received Adventure Skill ...

Re: Rovers to get Milestone Recognition Program awards

I also suggest that you contact the help centre. The help centre is available to answer ALL questions about Scouts Canada, not just those about myscouts.ca. They are the fastest and most reliable way to get an answer about national operations or policy, which beats any guesses we could give you here.

Council Websites

I'm in the process of launching a new website for New Brunswick Council, so I'm looking for feedback from Scouters as to what they'd like to see on council websites in general.

If you were helping to design a council website, what would you put on it?

Re: Voting manipulation?

I said this on Facebook, and I'll say it again here. Maybe I'm missing something here, but what's so crazy about candidates putting their heads together to discuss the AGM? This is an election after all. Do you mean to say that the candidates from Scouts Eh and elsewhere didn't discuss strategy? I f...

As you may know from the other threads here, a program revitalization process is currently underway. Expect to see an overview of some proposed rover program concepts posted here soon after the AGM next weekend!

Do you have any specific questions?

Re: Top Rover Award

Scouts Canada is currently working on developing revitalized programs for all sections, including Rovers. A top level award for Rover Scouts is almost certainly going to be part of the proposed new Rover program. Expect to see more information about our proposal for the new Rover program in the next...

Re: Administration of the Crew

As far as I'm concerned the year plan would simply be an outline of the different projects and camps that you have planned, and dates for the camps if you have them. The medium ranged plan would be a few months, with more detailed planning the camps, and short range planning would be the next few me...

Re: Voicing Opinion on Scouts Canada Official Face Book Page

We could make these forums closed, in that people would have to register before reading posts. However, it wouldn't change the fact that anyone can register - i.e. you don't need to be a Scouter to have an account. So it seems to me that it wouldn't accomplish anything. I agree that TalkScouts is be...

Growing Rover Membership

Over the past few days there has been extremely active discussion on Facebook regarding how we can grow our Rover membership across the country. There are currently 886 Rovers in Canada, making it by far the smallest section in the organization. As Doug Reid (DNC Program) said, all ideas presented w...

Re: Scouts Canada on Facebook

Sorry for any confusion on this. The page that I linked to above is being maintained by the Scouts Canada Social Media team, which (to quote Harry) is made up of a number of fine, fine Rovers, as well as a couple Social Media professionals. The one that you have mentioned called "Scouts Canada Offic...

Re: Should Rover Scouts be called Youth

To answer your question Errol, in my experience my crew has always been treated with respect by the support structure. We are effectively autonomous from our Group Committee in most things, and we have free reign to run our program as we see fit. We are well known for the service that we do, so the ...

Re: "God" stuff

Pick any word. How about "box"? I'll promise to love box and help take care of the world. The real world meaning doesn't matter in the scouting context. Nevermind that Allah is the name of god among muslims and the Muslim god is the same god as the Christian and Jewish gods. The point is that in th...

Re: "God" stuff

Although Scouts Canada requires a Duty to God, they define this very loosely. I may be wrong, but from my understanding it doesn't require belief in a deity, just spirituality of some sort. Having said that, I know that Scouts Canada has never turned anyone away because of their beliefs. John, do yo...

Everyone should speak their mind, but publicly denouncing Scouts Canada in the medi...

We have moved pre-existing Rover-specific topics from the other forums to this forum. There weren't many that I could find (only 8), so let me know if there are any other Rover topics that should be moved to here. This should make it easier to locate discussions about Rovers, as they will now be all...

Re: Rover Handbook

Just got off the telephone with Ian Mitchell. I understand that there is a very good possibility that the Deputy National Commissioner-Programme will be reviewing all 5 programmes as from September and that any beginning on rewriting the Rover Handbook might be premature. IF you want me to, I would...

For those of us who weren't at the summit, could you give us an idea of what the show was all about? Would this be targeted at Scouters, or to the general public?
