Re: Scouts Canada Membership over last Five Years ??

Hi Sam, I have not logged on for a bit, lots going on with my group and area. I see you'r statement of: in 2009 we had a plan to radically increase membership by 2015. Didn't happen http://talkscouts.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=161 At some point I recall steve kent saying that if we dont fix the m...

Re: When is a hornets nest a good idea to kick over?

I can see a lot of positive changes from national. The program is going back to its roots and that will be amazing for our youth. I see how national is open to feed back (not always acted on) and that this will benefit our youth. But… I see how old rotten wood that Scouters have to depend on may cau...

When is a hornets nest a good idea to kick over?

As a long time scouter (18 years), I would like some feed back when is it a good idea to kick over a hornets nest? I have been stung a few times rocking the boat with Scouts Can. but I'm so ready to kick it over and die for my youth. I feel the leadership from the top down needs to take a good hard ...

Re: Team building among leaders

Our group dose a leadership retreat every year for the Scouters and it's great, we assign a topic to each of our Scouters to cover off or work on for the weekend along with games. We are a small but tight group of 20 scouters.

Re: Equipment Purchasing Discounts

If you want a good list of items that are deeply discounted I would recomend www.hikerdirect.com (formaly scouterdirect.com) out of the US. Although the dollar is down their pricing is very close to wholesale and they give deals to scout groups.

This is really cool...but in Canada..."I don't think so Tim"

The most ironic thing is it's a Canadain company that worked on this partership. Something like this would be great for the Rover program.

Scouter growth development has stopped :(

I sent a copy of this to Andrew Price on Sept. 22/13 and still no answer to I take it Scouter development has stopped. Dear Mr. Andrew Price, As a long time Scouting member I have to say way to go in your new appointment. I was very impressed by Mr. Kent’s time at the helm and I know you will do Sc...

Re: Uniform Hats

I love and hate the idea of offical head gear. As a cub I wore the beannie, a scout both the ball cap and a beret and as a leader I sometimes wear an old school Scouts Canada Stetson. Most youth love the idea of head gear but, keeping track of it is a little nuts. I feel it that we should have somet...

Re: Insurance?

Our group looked into insurance a few years back and the price was crazy. We have all of our gear in a storage room in our sponsors building and we looked into it after the building was broken into. When they got to our room they only trashed some projects the youth were working on and took a Canadi...

Augus, I have used a few types of paint, Krylon alum. high heat paint after the spraying I bake it for 30 min. at 200 F this paint is good to 1200 F. I have also used VHT High-Temperature Paint (VHT FlameProof) and baked it at 170F. (Look for these at automotive stores) Do not use the family range f...

Re: Coleman two buner stoves

Angus, wow a 446A! now that would be a sight! they are very nice. I had a 975B donated to the troop a few years back and it makes a 446 look like Peak 400A! next to it. Its a pig on fuel easly burning though 4L in a few hours of use. It is only good if your car camping because it weights over 20lbs....

Re: Coleman two buner stoves

I've got 6 Colman stoves in my shed waiting for rebuild ( and two more in the house) from various years. The biggest issue I have seen is with fuel turning to varnish in the generators. Is simply green the best way to clean that out? I am trying to get the troop to move away from propane and I am s...

Re: Why do we do what we do?

There is a 10001 reasons I still do Scouting after years of doing it as a youth, but the number one thing is that it's the "one hour a week" I can feel needed! No the real reson one is that I love it when at the end of day I can say to myself that I make a small impact on the world, be it teac...

Re: Coleman two buner stoves

Hi Sam, Yes if you get me a model then I can put somthing together for a rebuild doc. Depending on the model it may not use O-rings most of the time the packing may not be in tact or that the brass rings may have gotten over tighten. Stoves are really simple, there is not a lot to them, some times i...

Re: Coleman two buner stoves

Here are the coleman stove and lantern info. I have also included rebuild info for a Coleman 2 burner stove. If you have a lantern that needs rebuilding ask if I have info about that model. As a collector of Coleman items if you have something cool within your group I would love to see or have you s...

Coleman two buner stoves

Hello All, After talking with Scouters at CJ 13 I thought I would post this. Rebuilding two burner Coleman stoves I have done with my scouts several times and this is easy and can be very affordable. Most of the time I get them for free once I start asking around or placing ads on places like Kijiji...

Hi all, From what I can see this may become a non issue once the introduction of Squirrel Scouts for ages 4 to 5. I see lots about this program on SC twitter page but, have not heard much more anywhere else. This program may meen big changes for all the programs if this a new program out there. Just...

Re: New marketing campaigns announced

As both a Marketer and a leader I have to say I love the new campaign but, again I feel that the execution to the general membership was really lacking. For example, as for most agencies I would expect that there would be rules and regulations on how to use the new brand. I had to do a lot of huntin...

Liam: Do you need an old 335 for your scouts to play with? I have one I would be willing to send to you. It has no globe but I'm sure you could find one for it. LOL
