PS. This past weekend we had our troop out for a day hike. After lunch I showed them the pot cleaning method in the above video. It really grosses them out.

Re: Sump Pit?

Don't dig holes. . . While I attempt to follow the 7 Principles of LNT, I am not a fundamentalist about it. In my part of the world, digging up a small bit of sod for grey water disposal would not be a concern. However, there are some environs where this practice would be very damaging. So yes, poi...

Re: Sump Pit?

Proper grey water disposal is an essential LNT Skill. The system you use really depends on where you are camping and the conditions there. I am trying to find an image of a simple grey water system for camp, but cannot seem to find one (Maybe check the Field Book to Canadian Scouting). However, at i...

Re: Refugees

Interesting question. There is some screening completed by Immigration prior to being accepted as a refugee, however there are going to be some obvious gaps in that screening. That said, it is possible to get a PRC completed on any resident of Canada but all it will tell you is that they have not be...

I propose we do it properly. We should meet up at CJ and complete our badge trade with a Scout Handshake. :D

Re: CJ (Canadian Jamboree) 2017, Halifax NS

Hi Angus,

I understand that at CJ'17 we will be going back to the grocery store model like we experienced as youth.

Hope that helps,

Re: Paddling Skills

First off, thanks for posting. This is exactly the type of discussion I was hoping we could generate here . . . it seems far more civilized than Facebook. Like Sam, I have been able to get my Cub Pack out on the water several times now. The Cubs LOVE it. Personally, I love taking the Cubs padd...

Cub Scout Fishing Badge Question

Help a non-fisher out.

Our Cub Scout Pack Wants to go fishing so I was looking at the requirements of the Fishing Badge. Can anyone tell me what "toe an angling outfit" means?

Re: Trail Skills

Something we just did that might qualify for a lot of level 4 is we planned a night to go and get ice cream. The youth had maps, they had to plan the safest route (through the city), follow the map, use GPSs to confirm their location, and then navigate back. The Cubs seemed to enjoy it. I am not su...

Re: New Colony leader names?

Norma is correct. No names are being dropped. Some are being added. The names are going to be symbolic of nature and animals rather then the Jones family in the Friends of the Forest.
