Cheif Scout Award Website???

HI,

I was wondering if anyone knew what happened to the Chief Scout Award website? I know it was done by someone on their own and not part of the Scouts Canada website. But it was the best resource for Canadian Scouting badges and lets face it online resources that are for Canadian Scouting are slim.

My troop leaders used it alot and they really miss it.

That would be my site and I appreciate the compliments. I've received a number of requests asking the same question...which took a lot of investigative effort since the main e-mail address went away as well!

The bad news:
All of my e-mail and web site access was kindly provided free of charge by my brother who really did a lot for me. Unfortunately, he joined the navy which required a cross country move to Halifax so the site went down in July. I also began serving as an area commissioner last year and as a result my time availability went down so I just haven't been able to source a new host.

The good news:
Just last week I received an offer from a great scouter to provide a new hosting platform. He and I and my brother are now working to get the site up and running again. All of the actual site content is physically located on my brother's server so it will take some time to get everything transferred over as I have to wait until my brother returns from a training deployment.

I'm glad to hear that the website is getting back up, but anyhow if you ever do need hosting. I'm always able and willing to help.

I am not aware of the Chief Scout website however if you want historical information on badges and uniforms check out http://www.scoutalog.com which has a huge database for all Sections.

The site has a new hosting home! Thanks to Andrew B. for providing this valuable service. Currently a message at least appears when you go to the site but I still have to transfer all of the data to the new server and this will take some more time. All existing data is physically stored on my brother's server and when he returns home from a training deployment I can then do the transfer.

Have you tried retrieving your site from either Google cache or the internet wayback machine? I don't know your old URL or I would give it a try for you.

I didn't realize that the Wayback Machine kept all of the various downloadable items. I guess Google cache would have it all but I don't have the knowledge of how to do so. There are many, many gigs worth of files and resources so the transfer will take a bit. I just found out my brother's ship has returned so over the next little while I'll get the site fully functional again...or, to be precise my brother and the new host will!!!

Just to close the loop on this...the site is now being actively worked on and new material is being posted every day. The site has a long way to go before it is back to where it was but things are progressing. The badge workbooks are being posted as the first priority. After that, I don't have an exact plan! All of the historical data (ie, scans of Scout Leader magazine) will probably go last.
