Scouting Life as a PR tool

I've started an initiative in Edmonton to get every branch of the public library a donated subscription to Scouting Life. It's only $12 so I'm planning on asking everyone I know to contribute. This will help get our image out to the public.

Actually, doing it for schools would probably be a better approach so I'll do that too. I'll have to ask each school but perhaps I can get someone from the school boards to give blanket approval.

This is something that is inexpensive and easy to do. I encourage all others to offer your local school to pay for their subscription.

I've taken to "guerilla tactics" for spreading around the magazine...whenever I have an article published, Susan sends me one or two extra issues. I leave these in waiting rooms of doctor's offices, barber shops, etc. Only wish I had more to spread around.

We've swiped this idea too. Our leaders are donating their copies after they have read them, and we are redistributing to the local schools, libraries, dentist, and health centre.

Re: Scouting Life as a PR tool

Keep on forgetting to post that the most reached-for and read publication in my dental office is one of about 10 old Scouting life mags in our reception area and the individual treatment rooms in my office.

I KNOW we can get copies into other office reception rooms (physicians, hospital waiting areas--"delivery areas--LOL STEVE KENT", pediatric wards to be used as Branding---(kids and leaders Having FUN).

I get Time, MacLeans, Sports Illustrated sent FREE... regularly, "sponsored by...." . We just have to get the sponsors, Shoppers, Canadian tire(I think). I'm pretty sure the mags, say an extra 2,000 would cost less than 20cents each, with mailing being sponsored by .....??

Each one of us goes to a dentist, physician, or other professional and can ask for participation, or we can do a cold-mailing, to lists available from licensing bodies, or professional organizations, no biggy to get that part of it down.

Surely Scouts Canada has some marketing funds available, as well.

Just suggesting that this could be a great addition to our BRANDING goals.
