Half Year Rate - 2011-12

Anyone know what it will be? My Council exec doesn't know yet as national hasn't set it. Anyone know when the decision will be made? Voyageur Council has the half year rate set to start on 1 Feb...

Let's hope that SC will make a big splash with it once it's announced and they are witholding it in anticipation of a big splash...

OK, do tell. Where can I find this rate online so that I can show my GC and so we can start advertising prices.

Re: Half Year Rate - 2011-12

Our council, Voyageur, usually has reduced registration rates a mid-year, but I haven't seen them announced yet. The attached document has the details on the rest of the incentives.

Re: Half Year Rate - 2011-12

Again this year I had to ask when and how much - finally got the information unoficially but haven't seen anything official yet from our Counci.

I recommended that the fee reduction should be announced jointly with the Bring a Friend campaign - hard to promote membership when you don't know the price. Remember the four P's of marketing - product, price, place, promotion...

Re: Half Year Rate - 2011-12

Each council has their own system for fees and drops the cost at different times. (Some drop the cost every month)

Here are the Sask fees that were announced this fall

Youth (Participant) - $175.00
3rd or more Youth in a Family - $95.00
Reduced Fee (as of Feb 1, 2012) - $95.00
Rovers - $95.00
Rovers (as of Feb 1, 2012) - $90.00
All Fees (as of June 1, 2012) - $65.00
Adult Volunteers - No charge

National youth fee of $72.50, which includes:
*World Fee
*National Operations
*Indemnity and liability insurance is provided to every registered member

Re: Half Year Rate - 2011-12

so if the national fee is 72.50, why do we not work on a standard national price system for registration? I think that might help. it also might help to see what other groups that are similar charge. I know that guides here is just over half what scouts is. camp fees are the same. dues in scouts are more. I dont know that in this area $70 makes all the difference, but it has an impact for sure, especialy right when school starts and people are shelling out for school suplies and up to $300 in school fees.

Re: Half Year Rate - 2011-12

A standard rate across the country would make sense, however, only if the budget in each Council was the same. Some Councils, like some provinces, are naturally "richer" than others, simply due to an accident of geography, and no amount of careful budgeting by "poorer" councils will make up for the difference in resources. For instance, some councils cover huge geographical areas, making travel of CCs and DCCs within the council extremely expensive. Either services are reduced, or fees are increased.

It would be a very difficult balancing act to have a uniform council fee across the country. Still, it would be nice to have such uniformity.

Re: Half Year Rate - 2011-12

how do our rates compare to similar organizations?

Guides here is $75 less a year, camp fees the same
I cant get cadets and junior forest wardens on line
hockey costs roughly per person what a whole cub pack might cost. ok a small pack

curling is way less, but less time

soccer (indoor) is broken up differently but comes to a similar cost

bowling cheaper but less time.

And unless things have changed, In Cadets you get paid when you attend a summer camp more than 2 weeks long.

Re: Half Year Rate - 2011-12

Yes with Cadets they currently get paid $60/week for attending a summer training course to a max of 6 weeks. (The only longer course I know of is 7 weeks and you can get your pilot's license out of it which is worth a lot more).

Staff cadets (Sr. Cadets who teach at the summer camps) get paid starting at $68 per day.

They are primary funded by DND but each unit has to do fundraising to pay for any extra activities they want to do.

--

It is not possible for all councils to charge the same fee unless we get a lot of corporate sponsorship.
We could still sell the national portion of the membership and make it clear that the council and group portion are not included.

With the online registration you are supposed to be able to select the group you are joining and then it will display the total cost for that group. That system could be adapted to allow for gift cards. It would mean picking up the card at Costco and then activating it online instead of at the till.
