BackCheck for Criminal Record Check

Does anyone know anything about BackCheck not being an option anymore for PRCs?

I have e-mails from our council last fall saying it was an option. I went to the backcheck website to do my new CRC as I noticed the Scouts Canada logo there and the option to share my CRC with the local Scout Council. Now Council is telling me that BackCheck is no longer being accepted.

This is a huge PITA. If so, that means the only option is the local police service, in which case even if I initiate the process on line I have to take time off work to go down there to pick it up ( it's only open 8-3:30) - backcheck you can hit any post office. I'm not sure why SC doesn't do Child Abuse registry checks instead - is it because the organization must cover the cost of a child abuse registry check for an individual, but the cost of a PRC can be passed on to the group/individual?

I don't mind getting a PRC done every three years, but why is backcheck advertising Scouts Canada if it is not accepted? It's the PITA of having to take time off work for this.

And for the record I get two child abuse registry checks done on me each year for other organizations I volunteer with.

Re: BackCheck for Criminal Record Check

I don't think BackCheck can do the vulnerable sector check that we need. I'm happy to go through the RCMP once every 3 years, so I know ALL of my (and other's) records are checked :)

Re: BackCheck for Criminal Record Check

I was under the impression that the child abuse registry is checked as part of the vulnerable section screening.

Having the whole PRC with VSC done covers all of our bases. Checking only the registry would allow all sorts of criminals in who simply have not been caught for child abuse but are likely not good role models. Also leaders deal with more then just kids. They deal with our money, group property, and personal info.

I've never actually herd of anyone using back check here in Sask but have seen Scouts Canada advertise it. It is entirely possible that with the new VSC requirements of finger printing Back Check is no longer able to do them as Kaylee suggested.
