Hey Allan, instead of uploading images to the forum, consider linking to them instead using IMG tags. They would then be visible in the post, not consume storage space on this site, and avoid any copyright complications.

I never thought about that method. I did try and figure out how to make the attachments show in the post. The only drawback is that if the images change on the site then the content of the posting is lost.

Re: New marketing campaigns announced

Obviously the marketing agency bought the photo from an agency. I don't have any quibbles with the quality of the photo. However, when it comes to a Scout is "trustworthy" the use of this photo begs the question.

The implication to the viewer of the photo is that these are Scouting youth. We've now found out they aren't. Other agencies have found themselves in significant trouble for trying to pass off an idea as theirs when it wasn't. Have we fallen into the same trap by using an agency? Didn't National make it clear that they should be using photos "only" of Scouting youth?

This also brings into question the source of the other photos being used in this campaign. Are they from Scouting sources?

As a PR person, I always have to ask myself "does this pass the smell test." Knowing what we do now, I'd say "no."

Re: New marketing campaigns announced

I am not surprised with the use of stock photography. This is common practice as it allows for high quality (i.e. composition and resolution for printing) imagery with the proper photo release, licensing, etc. What is surprising is that Scouts Canada did not acquire exclusive rights to the images. This would of ensured that the same photo would find iteself in another context which can create confusing messaging. This is what we do at the company I work for when it comes to imagery for marketing material.

Re: New marketing campaigns announced

Thank you Errol, for posting the website of the new Scouts Canada Brand Centre which shows a lot of pictures and promotional material. Our White Pine Council is holding a growth seminar this weekend and are appointing a Growth Coordinator.

I hope our 20 plus Scouting Area Councils will seriously consider my ideas about recruiting Resource or Support Scouters from Scouting Alumni or retired Scouters to assist with Area Activities, jobs or events and create Honourary or Extra Scouting positions within a Scouting Group or Section that will "adopt" a senior or a retired Scouter in the same way that the Canadian Armed Forces has retired people as Honourary Colonels of Regiments and Squadrons ie Mike Scott our Scout International Commissioner is Honourary Colonel of the Belleville Headquarted Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment.

Re: New marketing campaigns announced

I wonder how the "It starts with scouts" line is interpreted. I see it as saying that former scouts go on to great things. but in todays I want it all now society people may be looking to join whatever it is that you go to after scouts. after all working your way up and earning things are becoming less valued by society in general.

Or am I reaching here?
