Famous Faces marketing campaign

Here is an article about a new Scouts Canada advertising campaign, "Scouts campaigns with famous faces". The campaign showcases leaders in Canadian society who were in Scouting as youth. The example they show is Alex Tilley. I am interested to see the other ads.

It is fantastic that Scouts Canada is emphasizing that Scouting devleops leaders, rather than just fun.

Re: Famous Faces marketing campaign

They are all (I think) shown in the following presentation: http://scouts.ca/scnls11/pres/Understan ... romise.pdf. Pages 104-115. Though these may have been the original concepts rather than the final product. For some reason this presentation is no longer in the list on the SCNLS11 website.

Hmmm... That copy has been removed. I have placed a copy at http://1stmerrickville.ca/downloads/Und ... romise.pdf

Re: Famous Faces marketing campaign

I really don't think many of those pictures are of the people they purport to be.

For example Alex Tilley is about 70, and Peter Mansbridge is about 60. Yet their "pictures" show them as Beavers. Both would have been adults when the Beaver program started. And I think Michael J. Fox would have been a teenager.

And some of the badges (Gordon Lightfoot with a 2007 centenary crest) adds to the doubt.

I think this is just a presentation Target made to SC, and they made up sample ads using those names, which is why they took it off the web. They didn't have permission to use the names yet in a campaign and the presentation uses other copyright material.

To clarify -- I'm referring to the presentation by Target that Allan has linked.

Re: Famous Faces marketing campaign

I think that campaign showing the famous adults might interest parents and adults but not kids. Kids want to see kids having fun and doing fun things. If the famous people were more extreme adults like skateboarders or snowboarders or movie actors who do action films then it would work. But showing a news reporter, hat maker and an actor who was huge over 20 years ago won't get kids interested in becoming a scout.

Re: Famous Faces marketing campaign

The campaign looks to me like it was directed towards adults, in particular, potential donors and parents. People understand that sports, for example, develop teamwork skills that are useful in adulthood. The campaign sends the message that Scouting too develops such skills; it's not just for fun. Getting parents interested is crucial for getting young people involved and keeping them.

What is the best preparation for adulthood: Leaving Scouting to make more time for sports, school, or debating club? Or staying in Scouting and taking advantage of what we have to offer? Parents play a huge role in that choice.

Re: Famous Faces marketing campaign

ultimaly especialy at the younger ages parents make the choice of what their children are enroled in. sure we should target some recruiting at youth, especialy scout age and up, but we need to get the parrents. recruiting leaders also helps. the current Girl Guides comercials look realy good and will help them recruit both leaders and girls.
