Great Hiking Places to Blow Off Steam!

Okay, this was Marc's idea (the Marc from Kirkland (that's kinda sorta part of Montreal)), but its a good one.

Where are your great hiking spots? When you really have to get out of the modern world and experience the wonder of the Universe by experiencing it in its natural form, where to you go? What are great hiking places for Beavers? Cubs? Scouts? Venturers/Rovers? Day hikes and multi-night hikes, where are the places you love best? Feel free to post pictures, if you are able.

Re: Great Hiking Places to Blow Off Steam!

I am not being a 'homer' just because I did the layout and survey of this 20 years ago but... I would put the Fundy Trail up against any trail and Canada for its beauty, challenge and diversity whether you are on foot or extreme biking...

http://www.fundytrailparkway.com/en/the_fundy_footpath/

It any Scout/Vent/Rover group is looking for an unreal trail experience.... that one should be on top of any list.

Also... the top end of the Appalachian trail in the U.S. ends with the climb to the top of Mt. Katahdin. Again... a truly challenging hike... with a spectacular finish for anyone who wants to do 'the Knife-Edge" across the top of Katahdin's peak.

Our Venturer Company's yearly tradition is to do a weekend where they do a white water rafting adventure in Southern Maine on Day 1... followed by a Day 2 climb to the top of Mt. Katahdin. (followed by 5 days of extreme muscle pain)

Along with the Fundy Trail... the Appalachian Trail/Mt. Katahdin adventure should be on the to-do list of any Scouting group east of Manitoba (or west too... if they want to make the big trip east to God's Country :D :D :D )

I've been to a few fun places,

I did my Leave No trace training at this park. It was very nice to hike around. They also have canoeing sites available.

If you want a real challenge, our troop, during Pacific Jamb, really enjoyed Gambier Island. They did say it was gruelling, but satisfying.

If you are in Quebec, near montreal , there are tons of fun trails. Many great for any level of scouting

Hmm.. I'm sure a few more will come to me.

Thanks for starting this great useful thread Angus!

I second this park for hiking, been there a number of times, once with kids. Seen Scouts there too.

I grew up hiking the Upper Highlands and Western Uplands trails in Algonquin Provincial Park (Ontario). With multiple loops, these offer options for a varying number of nights.
