Latest scouts.ca website

Looks nice enough.

Seems slower.

We lost the link to talkscouts.ca My one contribution to the previous website :)

About only the first page has changed format, all the stuff underneath is the previous format.

BP&P and the magazine seem to have dissappeared.

Re: Latest scouts.ca website

I just found the link to talkscouts.ca which is buried in Resources. I think it deserves equal billing with the social media sites as it is conducive to longer and more reasoned discussion. Likely more appealing to older Scouters like me.

Re: Latest scouts.ca website

I already left a message for John Petitti...maybe if everyone sent him an E-Mail about the link. I suggested that it be placed in the Green Balk along with the Shop On Line as it was before < jpetitti@scouts.ca >

Not enamored at all with the new site.
I am having a really hard time finding resources, it's not well organized at all, who wants to look through a page of long links?
I am on a different computer and was looking for the link to our council website, can't find it.

The links for the talkscouts forum and the Wiki should be included in the 'connect with' spot along with the FB, Twit, LinkD and U2b links.

Re: Latest scouts.ca website

I actually like having a list of links. But would prefer it to be a site map so that all of the links are there for when I can not remember what sub page a link is on.

The councils can be found under about -> find your local council.
I think that it looks really nice and clean but wonder where all of the clutter went. Some of that clutter was useful info.

No sir, don't like it. Don't like it one bit!

But I guess if the idea is to gear the website to prospective members and abandon current members, it has achieved it's goal.

Re: Latest scouts.ca website

From a web design perspective, scouts.ca has been behind the curve for much of it's history. This iteration is FINALLY a modern page, and websites are now usually the first impression of any organization. If you lose them with a webpage, before they've even gone to a meeting, it's failed as a publicity tool. Give them time to fix links and such and you'll find it'll be just a useful as the previous iterations.

Re: Latest scouts.ca website

While one can argue the merits of the new website design, what inept management cuts over a new website without first testing it? Does no one in charge have any common sense? Was there no test plan? Were there no plan for the content? For a parent it is a nice looking and more welcoming main page, but it is slower, and for leaders looking for information, absolutely useless.

Re: Latest scouts.ca website

Had a quick scan of what was mentioned here in this topic. One thing which is important but appears not to have been brought up is that all your old Favorites, can be accessed as follows .. You just need to put a '2' after www. See below

ie : my favorite for Program quality was http://www.scouts.ca/dnn/ProgramResourc ... fault.aspx
but when you hit this .. you get a page not found @#$%#%#$

just add a 2 as follows
http://www2.scouts.ca/dnn/ProgramResour ... fault.aspx

to get to where the important stuff is !

Re: Latest scouts.ca website

But why should you have to add a "2"

Shouldn't it be more important to have it designed properly and fully functional, then to worry about how you should manually alter the web address to find the information you need?

IMHO, they could leave as it now is for parents and prospect, and then have a leader login to get to all the resources ( incl. membership info)

I'm guessing that is what Myscouts.ca is going to be. It is AMS. but has been delayed so they left the link to the old leader section under resources.

Also, it's fairly common practice to get the main page up and build on that. Plus it helps to have users from all over the net to point out problems that may or may not show up for the site admin.

So its beta testing! Makes sense. Perhaps they should do the same with AMS?
