Re: Scouts Canada BPP Quick references

I get the same error as I did earlier this morning (just for Company), which I assumed was the same error Kevin was seeing:

  Code:
Server Error in '/dnn' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Input string was not in a correct format.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

Stack Trace:

[FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.]
   System.Number.StringToNumber(String str, NumberStyles options, NumberBuffer& number, NumberFormatInfo info, Boolean parseDecimal) +7470007
   System.Number.ParseInt32(String s, NumberStyles style, NumberFormatInfo info) +119
   DotNetNuke.Services.FileSystem.FileServerHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) +1429
   System.Web.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +181
   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +75

The documents are a good idea and are quite well done. A lot of the content is unfortunately just a copy/paste from BP&P and thus maintains a lot of the useless talk from the Outdoor Guide. It would have been better to paraphrase the legal content into useful content.

Could someone please explain why I should not be demonstrating how to tie a sling using one of my scouts.

This is the Link to the English page. I did NOT copy and paste the French Link, but it is there as well and does work. Sorry about that. Cheers.

Re: Scouts Canada BPP Quick references

Richie,

I went and looked on page 8 of the Troop guide (and the surrounding pages) and I did not see the part you're referring to at all.

If it's there, I think maybe it's more appropriate to demonstrate on another adult and have youth practice on each other? I could be wrong, but that would be my guess! Does it not elaborate? And... where exactly is it?

Sorry page 6 bottom left.

Yes I guess that is what I'll do but I would prefer to have the youth as involved as possible. It helps to keep their attention.

Re: Scouts Canada BPP Quick references

@Ritchie @Kaylee
Adult Leaders should not:
• Show favouritism for particular youth members.
• Invite youth member(s) alone to your home or other
private accommodation.
• Have private talks with individual youth members away
from the presence of other Scouts or adults.
• Carry one youth member alone in your vehicle.
• Go on a hike or other activity with one youth
member alone.
Demonstrate first aid on a youth member.
• Assist youth members with personal hygiene or dressing
except where health or disability requires it and then
only in the presence of another adult.

Kaylee is quite correct Ritchie, it is not appropriate, today any more, for adults to demonstarte anything using the Youth for that demonstartion. Mucxh better to use an adult and nat have even the possiblity of a misinterpretation. That's the way things are and that is the policy.
