Year End Suggestions

Good day Folks,

As this is our groups first year, just wondering what different types of events other groups do for year end wind ups? We have some ideas kicking around, but would appreciate any input!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Year End Suggestions

The real question is why are groups ending now when there are still four months left in the year.

Notwithstanding the above, I would guess the most common end of year thing is a BBQ, with some groups doing an all-section camp.

Re: Year End Suggestions

We do a swim-up/jump-up/stroll-up group meeting and pizza party all sections meeting at a nearby riverfront park in the middle of May with all our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers. This is followed by the Area Camporee and then by the Group Linking Camp where new Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers get to camp with their new section for the first time.

Is that the sort of idea you are seeking?

Allan.

Just because AnzacRon is asking about end-of-year programming, it is unwise to assume that means that Scouting is over for the year. While my group's Beaver and Cub sections wrap up at the end of May, the Scouts and Venturers go all year long.

Re: Year End Suggestions

A few groups in our area hold a year-end Group Camp which frequently include all Sections and an invite to parents to join the fun. In one group I was involved with, each Section was responsible for their own programming with the Group Committee overseeing supper on the Saturday and campfire. It also included, on the Sunday morning following Scouts Own, the move up ceremonies for each section.

As with some of the other sections, usually only Beavers and Cubs wrapped up activities, while Scouts and Venturers carried on as they wanted.

Re: Year End Suggestions

Thank you for the suggestions. Although we are wrapping up, most of our youth are excited that we will run a skelton program throughout the summer. We are proud of our accomplishments in just this short amount of time, and extremely happy the youth are already eager about next year.

Re: Year End Suggestions

We end off the year with a celebration!
We ask everyone to invite friends and family to see what we have accomplished during the year.
Set up projects and craft that we have done. HAve the cubs write their top ten things that they liked about the year.

Give out awards and a then have a huge slideshow. Here the trailer to the slideshow..

Re: Year End Suggestions

Thanks Marc,

That's indeed what we have done. We are holding an all section BBQ, with friends, family and the community!! We have events and games lined up, skits, cheers, food etc. The Scouts are going to work on a fire building competition, to show off their new found skills. We even ordered a HUG custom cake with a our group patch on it...

Anyone in the Anzac area June 19th is welcome to join us!
