Registration Fees for 2010-2011

So it seems that the Scouting Now goal of eliminating Leader Registration Fees has failed. We don't have it in writing yet, but have been told that for White Pine Council our 2010-2011 Youth Fees will be $140 ($145??) before June 30, and after $155. Also, our Leader Fees will be $85 before June 30, not sure yet after. Last year (2009-2010) Youth Fees were $130 before June 30, and after $145.

What has everybody else heard so far??

I know for a fact that the Scout Canada portion of the fees has NOT changed; it is the same as last year. That was confirmed to me by Gary yesterday so I could send in my Groups'registrations.

Hi Errol !

Do you know what those portion fees are? Are they documented somewhere? I searched scouts.ca but could'nt find anything.

Haven't heard anything yet. The larger question will always be: what does the increase cover?

It's becoming more and more difficult for me to justify the increased costs to parents, especially those with two youth in Scouting who aren't eligible for family discounts.

And, many groups add their own fees (some even include dues) - which means pushing the cost towards the $200 mark. Without justification of the costs, many parents are choosing to walk away.

Our groups pay $43.50 as the registration fee. We have to buy our own Insurance Coverage over here as SC Insurance in only within Canada. The Insurance part of the Fees is: $15.00

As was previously stated, the National portion of the registration fee will not be increasing this year, as voted on by the Board of Governors at their January meeting.

Thank you Melissa.

What are those National fees for both Youth and Leaders, both early registration & fall registration?

Is there a breakdown, beyond the $15 for Insurance, and is the Insurance the same for both Youth and Leaders?

Re: Registration Fees for 2010-2011

The Voyageur council 2010/2011registration fee is $115 if paid in the spring and $130 after that. The fee is the same for kids and adults. These fees are the same as last year. So nothing came of the "eliminate leader fees" initiative. Though the rumour I heard was that if leader fees were eliminated, the youth fees were going to be raised to make up the revenue loss. Somebody didn't get the point...

My understanding is that the national portion of the registration fee is $58.50 and did not increase this year. This includes $15 for insurance which is the same for both kids and leaders. The national portion of the fee is the same throughout the year.

Our groups tacks on an additional $15/kid for hall rental and $40/family to cover the leader registration fees. Plus dues, camps, uniform, etc.

We provide an estimated total annual cost to parents on our registration web page http://www.1stmerrickville.ca/registration/. Total cost runs $350-$750 depending on the section.

We are pretty clear that their registration fee doesn't buy them any program, that is extra. We had to be blatent about this as our sponsor and donors were baulking at giving us funds as they saw how much registration money we were collecting.

Melissa ?

Some other Scouters have passed along some of the #'s, but is there a more complete breakdown, such as has been available in previous years?

Is there a breakdown of the $45 as there has been in some previous years?

Re: Registration Fees for 2010-2011

There will be a breakdown of the national fee available very shortly (I'm estimating within two weeks). In the meantime...please be reminded that Steve Kent and the National LeadershipTeam have challenged councils to reduce leader fees, and many councils have. We're also hoping to reduce the national portion of the fee over the next year.
We're still committed to realizing all the goals of the Action Plan.
Meaningful change takes time.

A pleasure. I hope all Talkscouts contributers will feel free to contact me directly if they wish.
If I don't know the answer, I'll certainly try to find it for you.
